On 12th February, 2019 the Lodge had the greatest pleasure of donating a cheque to Poppy Scotland for £500. This sum was raised during the fundraising for and dedication of our new War Memorial.
Collecting the cheque on the evening on behalf of Poppy Scotland was fellow Freemason, Bro. Gordon Ritchie of Lodge Earl Haig No. 1260. Once again the Lodge thanks Bro. Mark Brown PM for all his efforts in making this possible.
On 12th February, 2019 Bro. Greg O'Lone of Lodge Eastmuir 1126 became the latest honorary member of our Lodge.
As well as being a regular visitor at our meetings, Greg is a great suppoerter of all our social events. Unknown to many Greg has done a lot of work to help with the upkeep of our halls in his own time and seeking no reward or thanks. A credit to his Mother Lodge and to Scottish Freemasonry, it is a pleasure for us to now count Greg among the Brethren of Lodge Scotia 178.
After being alerted to an auction lot, our Brother Secretary secured the return to the Lodge the Past Masters Jewel, Apron and case of Bro. James R MacDonald PM (1931),
To our delight a photo of the distinguished PM was also included amongst the items. All tems were in a fantastic condition despite being 87 years old and it is great to see them back in our halls.
If anyone has any information on Bro. MacDonald please get in touch with s.
Saturday 8th December, 2018 saw Bro. Graham Mercer Young become the new RWM of Lodge Scotia 178. Installing Masters on the day were Bro. Stuart Hay PM, Bro. Samual Henderson PM, Bro. Grant Morrison and Bro Andrew Green PM and each was a credit to their mother lodge and carried out a fist class ceremony. The following harmony once again proved what a fantatstic ladies committee we have and each of the speakers on the evening added to the occasion with heartfelt and well written toasts. See photos,..
On Thursday 29 November 2018 a number of our Brethren made the trip to Edinburgh to attend the Grand Lodge of Scotland annual installation ceremony in Freemasons' Hall. They witnessed the Installation of the new Grand Master Mason, Brother William Ramsay McGhee, MStJ, D.L. Our RWM Bro. Christopher Henderson was on the Toast List and had the honour of replying to the Toast to the Daughter Lodges which was proposed by Brother John F. Herrick, Substitute Grand Master. The toast was well written, well delivered and well received. A fantstic day out was had by all who made the trip.
It is with great sadness that we announce that on 28th May, 2018 Bro. Alex Brown PM passed to the Grand Lodge above. Bro Alex was a member of our Lodge for 71 years having been initiated in 1947. Bro Alex served the Lodge as RWM in 1998 a full 50 years after first joining. He also served the Lodge as Secretary to the instruction class for over 35 years and amongst other things was also Honorary Provincial Grand Bible Bearer and the Session Clerk for Saint Andrew in the East Church where the PGL Divine Service was then held. Bro Alex served this Lodge well for a long time and we will be poorer for his loss. 'A kind man with a smile and a good word for everyone.' A freemason through and through. Rest easy dear Brother.
RWM Christopher Henderson had the pleasure of bestowing honorary membership on Bro. Ian Haldane, Past Master and current Worshipful Senior Warden of Lodge Eastmuir No. 1126. Ian has been a great friend to and supporter of Lodge Scotia for many years. Many of our social events would not be the successes they were, were it not for Ian's hard work and aid. The thanks of all the Brethren of Lodge Scotia go out to him and we join our RWM is congratulating him on becoming one of us.
Also on the night an excellent working of the EA degree was carried out by the degree team of Lodge Salfire No. 1505 on Mr Darren Malley. Darren is the brother of our Senior Deacon Bro. Ross Malley and it is a pleasure to welcome him into the craft and into Lodge Scotia.
The RWM had the pleasure of welcoming two new Honorary Members to Lodge Scotia 178. These were in the persons of Bro. Phil Devitt PM 1601 and Bro. Robert Clements PM 1601. Both are Past Masters of Lodge Lord Bruce 1601 and both are well known faces here at Lodge Scotia. An excellent turnout of Brethren from within and without the province on the night witnessed the event as well as seeing Bro. Daniel Robertson passed to the Fellowship Degree by the degree team of Lodge Springburn No. 1198.
